At Malmesbury, we follow the ‘letters and sounds’ programme of learning phonics in EYFS and KS1 At the end of Year 1, each child takes the ‘phonics screening check.’ This is to show how well your child can use the phonics skills they’ve learned up to the end of Year 1 and to identify pupils who need extra help.
The National Curriculm 2014 sets out a range of spelling and all children should be able to spell by the end of Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6. Click on the document ‘Spelling appendix 1’ to see the rules that are taught as well as the statutory words lists (the tricky words that often do ot conform to spelling rules) that children are expected to learn o spell accurately.
